CAMERA GEAR
There`s something quite special about capturing surfing, the surf community, and the ocean, as camera gear is required to cover all aspects of air, land, and sea.
I mainly focus all my gear on filming rather than raw photography, which then again requires more gear to shoot at a higher quality.
As it stands, I feel my current setup works perfectly for my style of filming and photography, with the ability to shoot a very wide number of compositions and colours I love.
Here`s a full gear list for all tech lovers, including lenses, housing, lights, and, of course, cameras!!!

For my camera body, I have a Sony Alpha 6300 fitted with a full small rig setup: handles, mounts, monitors and mics. The A6300 works unbelievably well for me with its uncompressed 6K recording that it compresses to a really sharp looking 4K, as well as being able to run 120 FPS at uncompressed 4K that becomes an unbelievably sharp 1080p. Matched with a nice 24.2 MP mirrorless sensor, the photo ability is also pretty good. Not only this, but the sheer number of features this camera has also just adds to it.

I have quite a variety of lenses due to the fact that I need to record super long distances for filming from land to super short ones that I use in the water. My favourite and most used lens is probably my Sony 16-50mm flat lens that I use in the water housing, this depth of field is fantastic for wide angle shots going to somewhat tele photos further allowing me to crop in on photos without any strange distortion, my other most used lens is on the entire another end of the spectrum and it's my Sigma 150-600mm that I only really use for land filming, the 150mm allows me to film shore breaks and relatively close to the surfers, then going to the 600mm giving me more than enough distance to film from quite an impressive distance, these 2 are my most used lenses but I also have another that bridges the gap between the other 2 and its a Sigma 70-200mm, this doesn't get as much use as id like to admit but it`s pretty perfect for brand photos and occasionally some cinematic shots.

I am fortunate enough to have an exceptionally good water housing for my camera fitted with quite a minimal port sort of in between a dome port and a long-range port which fits the 16-50mm lens perfectly, I also chose a bright orange colour which I love, nice and vibrant compared to the usual black and greys. The housing also has neutral buoyancy, which is fantastic for surface shots and then diving shots, but I've only had the housing this winter, and you can't see a lot in the North Sea recently, so hopefully, summer will bring some treats.

I occasionally use my GoPro with the water housing only if I'm shooting photos just so I can slow-record something. I use a Hero Plus, which is a nice cheap option which still runs a lovely looking 1080p at 60FPS.

finally, for the actual recording gear, I have my DJI Mavic 2 Mini Pro, absolutely love the drone and never fails to capture something amazing with the very different compositions it captures, specs are extremely similar to my A6300 which works in my favour as when changing between the Camera and Drone the resolution stays the same which visually looks way better.
-
The key piece of all the gear is definitely my fluid head tripod from K&F, which allows for extremely smooth motion along the vertical and horizontal plane, which, when you're recording at 600mm, is extremely beneficial to get the smoothest and steadiest shots.
-
The final important piece of the collection is a Zhiyun Crane 2 gimbal. This does get quite a lot of use for cinematic shots and brand shoots. The gimbal is such a fantastic piece of kit, and it still impresses me how smooth the footage looks after shooting, especially in some pretty strong winds.

to move all of this around I have a camera backpack which is essential for travelling, not only protecting your cameras but also lowering the cost of flights, and then when I'm at home I have quite a large solid case that is just trustworthy and sturdy allowing you to have full confidence that your camera is protected in transit and in any weather.
